2019 was a game-changer where the life of every single person took a 360-degree turn. The
concept of online learning became a life saviour and helped students all around the world
survive these tough times.
Online learning has its perks. Not only does it comes with unending flexibility but also it widens
the opportunities which were otherwise restricted either due to location, distance or other
physical factors. Not only does it removes all physical barriers to learning but it also enables
people to go further beyond cultural, religious and national limits and avail the opportunity to
gain knowledge from people whom otherwise they could never get a chance to interact with.
According to research eLearning requires 40% to 60% less time learning than traditional
classrooms. on average, students can retain 25% to 60% more information when learning online
compared to 8% to 10% when in the classroom. Online learning also enables people to earn in
these inflationary times where a myriad of people became unemployed due to covid 19, with a
less initial investment and low payback period positively impacting the degrading economies.
On the contrary, online learning has reportedly promoted a sense of isolation, and a lack of
self-motivation also may lead to excessive procrastination which in turn may deteriorate
personal development. Online degrees may require more time and resources which may be out
of budget hence becoming a barrier to learning. Furthermore, technical problems are rampant in
this sector since these platforms entirely rely on technology, which is sometimes subjected to
failure and complete dependency on them may become frustrating at times. Computer literacy is
also a challenge because the advancements in technology are not understandable by every
child and at times it may become difficult for parents too to comprehend tasks, hindering the
timely submission. Moreover, the uncertainty prevailing may also lead to employees rejecting
online degrees as they are prone to cheating and the chances of fair results are not certain.
If used fairly, online learning has infinite benefits and is opening doors to the acme of success
for those who are willing to achieve it.
